Enforce Strong Password

The Preferences Enforce Strong Password Screen is used to apply stronger password rules when creating OmniVista users (Security - Users & User Groups - User). When you are done configuring the following Enforce Strong Password settings, click on the Apply button.

  • Enforce Strong Password - Click the slider to "Yes" to enable strong password rules or "No" to disable strong password rules. (Default = No)
  • Password Expiry - Specify the number of days during which a password remains valid. By default, Password Expiry is set to "Never". Changes to this setting apply immediately to new users, but do not affect existing users until they change their password on or after the current password expires.
    • Never - Password never expires. Note that when Enforce Strong Password is set to "No", the Password Expiry is automatically reset to "Never".
    • Select Expiry Days - Specify the number of days the password remains valid. (Range = 90 - 365 days, Default = 90). When the number of days until the password expires is less than 30 days, a warning message notifies the user of the expiry date and provides a link to the Edit User screen where the user can change the password.

When a user login profile is created, a visual indicator on the Create User Screen will let the user know if they are meeting the password restrictions as they enter the password they want to use. In addition, a password generator option is also available.

Note: Users created when Enforce Strong Password is disabled can still continue to use the same password even after Enforce Strong Password is enabled. The strong password restrictions are not be applied to existing users, unless they attempt to edit their user profile after enforcement is enabled.
